"We're moving to South Africa!"
"Really? Cool! … uh. But, Why South Africa??!"
For many friends, colleagues, and family members, most who live in North America and Europe, South Africa seems an odd choice. It's far away, a terribly (read: "too") exotic destination, and is often cited in studies for its crime statistics.
"Why South Africa" for us is simple
Magnificent landscapes and wilderness that take our breath away.
So many rich cultures and ways to discover and understand.

Abundant wildlife that I had dreamed of seeing in their natural environment.
Incomparable South African hospitality.

Ancient, fascinating histories.

Foot-stompin', hip-wagglin' music that you just gotta get up and dance to.

The climate. Short winters = happy Corinne.

Biltong. Yum!

Sounds never before experienced: The scream of the baboon, the "Ha-de-da" of the ibis.

South Africa offers so many elements for an adventure in discovering the extraordinary, the challenging, and all that's possible.
And these are just a few of our reasons "Why South Africa."

Seeing all this pics, my feelings somewhere between veneration and admiration and I´m looking forward to see more about them. I would also like to get to know more about your farming strategy & survival plans – How you will run your own little powerplant (not to desturbe the niche waterfalls), where will you place your kitchen garden and how far from your house will the beehive be placed… that brings me to the question of which beehive model will be chosen (but that´s an insider question)..;-))
Having worked for a farmer in my early 20ies, I got an impression about what farmers work means… (dont want to say that I know what it means) So, hats off about your decission and good luck!!
It would be great to stay in contact with you and, when Nils becomes a beemaster, I would be happy to support you as much as possible.
All the best
Thomas
Thomas, we appreciate your support. We hope we can better answer your questions as we move forward. Per Nils, we will definitely stay in contact with you, and look forward to perhaps working together when we’re ready to start beekeeping! Start planning a trip to S. Africa.
The photographs are amazing! I can't wait to check in and see more. Congratulations on this fun and wonderful adventure!!
Thanks, Susan. Happy to have you along for the adventure! And, some wisdom and lessons learned from You would be appreciated along the way. =)
We spent a month in South Africa earlier this year and absolutely loved it. Our long-term plan is to retire there.
Ah, you are wise, indeed, Mr. Parrot! South Africa, she gets under your skin, doesn’t she?
We have feral cats, wallabies, possums, rabbits, snakes and deer as our natural threats. (won't mention drought and global prices)
You have large big cats with huge teeth, big pachyderms, big snakes, big everything. Can't wait to read all about it.
Thankfully, in our immediate vicinity, pachyderms aren’t an issue, and only “medium-sized” feline occasionally. But there are those snakes and other reptiles … oh, and those raptors. Oh goodness, I’m already mourning my poor chickens!
Wow, love it! I can't wait to read about your adventures!
Thank you, Sylvia. Will do my best to make it an adventure for everyone.
Corinne and Nils:
Well, you've really gone and done it this time! That is, you've done something that many dream of, but few have the courage to pursue. Cindy and I (and the kids!) congratulate you on your new life, and we look forward to hearing many great stories of your adventures to come . . . . It's going to be a wonderful time. God bless!
We, too, look forward (with just a leeettle trepidation) to the adventures ahead. Thank you for being with us in spirit!
