Nils and I are MAUPPIES (middle-aged urban professionals), making a living, living our lives, too often remarking that there's not enough time to do all that we want to do, or see all the people we want to see, sometimes asking ourselves "what's next?", and more and more wanting to make our lives count.
Me, I'm from the Wash, DC area. I've worked/lived in NYC, DC, Paris, Hamburg (Germany), and Vienna (Austria) as journalist, comms manager, teacher/trainer, writer/editor, and corporate subsidiary launch consultant, with a few bouts of "in between jobs" in between. I swore I'd never leave city life. I sing in the shower, dream of Colin Firth (only occasionally, hon), am addicted to sour, chewy candies (Gummi Bears rule!), and really hope my infamous black thumb can transform to a shade of green. As for my black suede pumps — I'm not ready to give 'em up — I predict black suede and overalls at Paris Fashion Week 2012.
Nils, he's from Hamburg, Germany, but has been equally at home in Vienna, Austria. As a business consultant, he's worked with clients that include some of the largest banks and business concerns in the world. Thanks to him, we own every Star Trek series on DVD. On special occasions. like when we won't meet anyone we know, he's allowed to wear his geekazoid Babylon 5 baseball cap. (I guess I could've just explained that he's an engineer, that would've explained a lot). Though an avid sailor, regrettably, he's given much of it up because I get monstrously seasick — and I really do mean monstrously! He looks forward to having his feet firmly planted on his own soil. He's already proven he's hell with a chainsaw.
